Easier said than done I'm afraid, none of the players are of any value as are mainly on non-contracts one of the many disadvantages of being a semi pro club. 

All I can hope is I fall on some gems that can push me up the league table and pray we become a professional club and tying players to contracts.

Proper ouch, you could search for players that contracts expiring in 6 months? I did that and found few hidden gems for my Lens save.

Mid Season Update

24th August 2024

Here we are again Summer time of 2024, Brian Adams - Summer of '69 playing in the background. The waves hitting the shore albeit cold air going across my bald head. 23 games into the season and we sit comfortable in mid table.

 

7 games to go in the season and after a start of the season arguing with Nordell about wages he finally extended his contract. Faustini is once again popping the ball in the back of the net on a regular basis, but noone expected anything less from the wing wizard.

 

Game of the season so far was the 8-0 drubbing over Sylvia. The Yorkshire tea worked it's magic this weekend. The team is topping the charts for goals scored but we are conceding far too much and being for too inconsistent. 

Gateshead was the main club of note that approached me this season. As much as I'd love to take on that project they preferred Hayden Mullins.

End of Season Review

20 Oct 2024.

Squeaky bum time doesn't quite cut it this year. Finishing Just above the relegation play offs after an abysmal run. 9 points clear but that could have been so different any other time.

 

No celebrations with the boys this year just an early holiday to spend with families wind down and a pat on the back for the fight they put up.

Once again due to financial restraints (I really need to get in touch with the Yorkshire Tea HR about sponsorship) we weren't able to bring in any players and the same will likely be next season too.

The coming season will see youngsters being used more and possibly a change from a flat back 4 to 3 at the back if we can pull it off. Overload the back line and have 3 strikers to play out too.

I need to reach down to my inner Yorkshire Bastard and create something special next season.

I will always keep one eye on the progress being made here.

Charlton Athletic Football Club is an English professional football club based in Charlton, south-east London, which compete in EFL League One. Their home ground is The Valley, where the club have played since 1919. They have also played at The Mount in Catford during the 1923–24 season, and spent seven years at Selhurst Park and the Boleyn Ground between 1985 and 1992, due to financial issues, and then safety concerns raised by the local council. The club's traditional kit consists of red shirts, white shorts and red socks, and their most commonly used nickname is The Addicks. Charlton share local rivalries with fellow South London clubs Crystal Palace and Millwall.

The club was founded on 9 June 1905 and turned professional in 1920. They spent one season in the Kent League and one season in the Southern League, before being invited to join the newly-formed Football League Third Division South in 1921. They won the division in the 1928–29 season, and again in 1934–35 following relegation in 1933. Charlton were promoted out of the Second Division in 1935–36, and finished second in the First Division the next season. Having been beaten finalists in 1946, they lifted the FA Cup the following year with a 1–0 victory over Burnley. The departure of Jimmy Seed in 1956, manager for 23 years, saw the club relegated out of the top-flight the following year. Relegated again in 1972, Charlton were promoted from the Third Division in 1974–75, and again in 1980–81 following relegation the previous season.

Charlton recovered from administration to secure promotion back to the First Division in 1985–86, and went on to lose in the 1987 final of the Full Members' Cup, though they won the 1987 play-off final to retain their top-flight status. Having been relegated in 1990, Charlton won the 1998 play-off final to make their debut in the Premier League. Though they were relegated the next year, manager Alan Curbishley took them back up as champions in 1999–2000. Charlton spent seven successive years in the Premier League, before suffering two relegations in three years. They won League One with 101 points in 2011–12, though were relegated from the Championship in 2016, and again in 2020 after they won the 2019 League One play-off final.

The Unemployment Line

26th Feb 2025

So today I'm signing on at the Job Centre, Time to claim Universal credit.

To be fair to the board, I was given a task to turn a team around a quarter of the way through the season and the players instantly didn't want me there. Constant complaints about the training and a January window where I managed to bring in 3 players. 

The board gave me 5 games to get 11 points when I was struggling to buy a win, I managed 6 points in 4 games and the board said bye bye.

Where do I go from here? Well I could take some time off. Or I could dust myself off and get back into it and build from the bottom up again.

We shall see where it takes us.

Bristol Rovers Football Club are a professional football club in Bristol, England. They compete in League One, the third tier of the English football league system.

They play home matches at the Memorial Stadium in Horfield, they have been competing there since 1996. They spent 89 years in the heart of North Bristol between 1897 to 1986 at the Eastville Stadium. Following a sale of the land they spent ten years at Twerton Park in Bath. The club's official nickname is "The Pirates", reflecting the maritime history of Bristol. The local nickname of the club is "The Gas", derived from the gasworks next to their former home, Eastville Stadium. This nickname originally began as a derogatory term used by fans of their main rivals, Bristol City, but was affectionately adopted by the club and its supporters. Cardiff City and Swindon Town are considered their second and third biggest rivals.^[3] Other rivalries include; Cheltenham Town, Exeter City, Forest Green Rovers, Plymouth Argyle, Torquay United and Yeovil Town. The club was founded in 1883 as Black Arabs F.C. and entered the Bristol & District League as Eastville Rovers in 1892. They won the Southern League in 1904–05 and were admitted to the Football League in 1920. They were placed in the Third Division South the following year and remained there until winning promotion as champions in 1952–53. They followed up this success by securing promotion out of League Two at the end of the 2015–16 season. They were relegated from the third tier in 2020–21 but returned at the first attempt. Rovers have won the Gloucestershire Cup 32 times, the Third Division South Cup in 1932, the Watney Cup in 1972, and have been Football League Trophy finalists two times.

Pre Season Gas problems

8th August 2025

Before I get started I need a LARGE cup of Yorkshire. Thankfully the local Asda stocks it, bonus! So where to start?

I walked into this job knowing I was set for a challenge but I wasn't aware the size of the task. I had to move players on not only to generate money but to change the wage deficit, just so I could bring in my own players to fit into the tactic and the style I want to play.

 

I have high hopes for Alvaro and Nadin coming in to develop. Two quality captures for League One football and a sign of where we want to go.

There's always that one player that wants to disagree with everything we do as managers. But those players are quickly out the door usually. This one just can't take a hint but sooner he's out sooner I can bring someone in.

Definitely a Joey Barton player, argumentative little swine! He's training with the kids for now.

Pre season it's self has been up and down with results but I put that down to not having my own players in.

Hopefully we can get off to a strong start and put the Charlton story far behind me. Anything but mid table would be a disaster.

Announcement

After getting to Bristol I just lost my mojo for the game with bugs constantly getting the better of me. Then christmas and new year hit and I took a step back. I think this is the end of the line for this story, I've ran out of Yorkshire Tea and with the cost of living crisis I can't afford to shop at sainsburys anymore so from VyKing and his Adventures this story won't be carrying on.
