I might be accused of being biased as a Liverpool fan but I felt the interview was mainly an attention seeking tactic. I agree and thought from that moment that he had caused a lot of disruption to his country right before a WC as you said.

I appreciate he is one of the best to ever do it and nobody can ever deny that but I felt it was very selfish.

As a Dutchman, this is how I saw the match vs Argentina, maybe I am biased, but nonetheless, here goes... 

I will begin by saying the referee was blatantly awful, in many of his decisions on BOTH sides, which (I believe) caused a lot of frustration on either side as he slowly lost his grip on the match, as well as both teams. He gave out yellow cards like candy for small offences but kept his cards in his pocket for the obvious handball of Messi, and the kick in the dugout of the Dutch. 

Yes, Argentina vs Holland is always a pretty heated match, but in my opinion it did not look like that in the beginning at all. The first half was respectful to each other, or at least, I seemed to think so. 

He seemed in favor of Messi, too, who felt to the ground all the time at the slightest touch. The penalty given, was in my eyes, a punishment too, way too harsh.

Then the Dutch came back, and 10 min extra time was given, and the Dutch equalised in the dying seconds of the game. Deserved? No. Absolutely not. Was I happy? Off course! I think I woke my entire apartment block! 

All Argentina players surrounded the referee at the extra time given, a trend this World Cup, that much ET... And then the referee seemed to lose more control, and seemingly influenced by the Argentines, whistled in favour of them all through extra time.

I cannot help to think Lahoz had a huge influence on the match, and how it went along...

Messi is done for me though, lost all my respect as I have never seen him like this before. Tirades against Weghorst and Van Gaal were a disgrace for a player of his stature...

Ps: I was happy to see Ronaldo cry, byebye now!

Gutted we lost to France, however I felt the ref was favouring the French alot in the game, HOWEVER, I think Saka, went down far too easy which led to France first goal. Knew Kane, would miss his second penalty. Think it will be France v Croatia in the final and I believe Croatia will go on and win it.

I felt England played better! Did not see the whole match though...

So prediction time guys. Who takes it home France or Argentina?

i hope france, too much scripting and arranging ... croatia had that bad day in the worst moment, during the knockout stage, whereas argentina had theirs in the group stage. the controversial penalty didn't help either, albeit they were clearly better than the croatians in all regards during the semifinal game.

had watched the quarterfinals against the dutch, and messi could basically do whatever he wanted, bit disgusting. on the other hand, that behavior during the penalty shootout by the dutch players and staff was piss poor, no surprise you get general mayhem then when argentina is involved.

france first, croatia third, i hope.

As much as I want France to win the WC just for Mbappe to walk into the PSG dressing room with another world cup winners medal and stand over Neymar and Messi like "who's the GOAT, WHO IS THE REAL GOAT" we all know the corrupt officials and organisation want to send Messi home as a world champion and want to do what they can to make this happen.

@Derek great final! I was late watching it so started it over from the beginning, without watching the score at the time (60 min in). Argentina deserved it, I think. Though the first penalty was not a penalty in my opinion, at all. Exciting final and Mbappé will exceed Messi eventually.

As a whole. Boring, a lot of controversy surrounding the referees in all of the knockout rounds, not much exciting football.
